Big Changes at Kobo

Holy Smokes! Kobo is so excited to show everyone our most recent change. This is a big one for us. The wall is a gonner!! Electricity is reorganized. Carpet is removed, and both the office and restroom have been painted. This wall would not have come out as smoothly if Dicky Stone weren't there. We owe him hugs, wine, good jokes, and lots of love for the rest of the year! It is amazing how much larger the space has become. We knew we were getting more square footage, but I don't think that we realized exactly how much that additional space would change the look of the gallery. Yay! Of course, all of this hard work can't come without injury to someone in this group. Doris put an enormous sliver through one of her fingers and Christi jammed one of hers (at least this time it wasn't her hammering hand). They are both healing and still able to participate in the remodel.
Next up: Painting the ceiling and walls!

In keeping with the theme of my last post I thought I would share my favorite recipe for strawberry cake. I have made this several times now and it is always a hit. I'm still experimenting with the icing, but my fav so far is fresh whipped cream folded into whipped cream cheese with a little extra sure to taste. This combination seems to work best as a filling when I make strawberry cupcakes. The texture is wonderful and not too sweet when you use one part fresh strawberries and one part frozen sweetened strawberries. The cake in the picture was made for a friend-in-need-of-a-good-cheering-up. The cake stand was my gradmother's. She surprised me with it when she found out I had been searching for one. The wearing gold rim is delicate and whimsical. It shows all the signs of good use. Although, the tale I tell about it is nothing like my grandmother's it is still wonder-ific all the same.

Happy Birthday Renee

Wishing Renee a day full of exciting celebratory events with family, friends, and pets. This is a picture of Renee last year on her birthday. Her mother and I made this amazing Barbie cake. The party was designed to be a throw-back to one of her favorite childhood birthdays. Suzie, was a huge help! She found the pan and tulle in a box tucked away with all of the things you keep for that one-day-when-I-might-need-it kind of event. I found the retro Barbie at this delightful five-and-dime close to my house. I cut and dyed the hair to be just like Renee's at the time. I'm not sure if we'll be able to top the celebration anytime soon. Who knows though...Jimmy has a big birthday coming up this year. I'm sure that party will out-do anything that we've done to this point. Happy Birthday Bestest!

OneNine Grand Opening

Congratulations Damien, Jimmy, and Renee! The shop looked great!

It was so nice to see such a big turnout last night at OneNine's Grand Opening. They have a wonderfully diverse group of supporters including family, friends, tattoo and art enthusiasts, locals and tourists. A stop into this shop wouldn't disappoint. A conversation with any one of the three would leave you wondering why you don't have stories as unique and captivating as theirs. If you don't leave with a tattoo or piece of artwork at least you will leave with the experience and a few new friends! Please stop by and show your support. Also, be sure to check out the collaborative pieces that Jimmy and I worked on.
